Here's a little fun

If you remember awhile back I said that I was working on putting some time lapsed videos together of some of the small paintings that I have done. Well here is the first one, staring the "Cow on a Hill" painting. Since all ideas stem from our own experiences in life I would like to give credit to the individual who sparked this idea for me, Carel Brest Van Kempen. He is a wonderful artist and I first saw the idea of doing these time lapsed videos on his blog and thought that that was just a great idea. So... thank you Carel and when you have an opportunity visit his blog. Enjoy the short video. Video is being re-edited, I will repost soon!

Presenting "Reflected Green"

Image
I just finished this up about an hour ago. I'll still need to sign it but I will have to wait until it dries to do so. Which will take a while due to the fact that the background is all sap green and that particular pigment takes time to dry. I have also included an image update of the two Ibis's painting that is now ready for its first layer of color. "Reflected Green (Green Heron)," Oil, 9 x 5

A new painting

This is one of the projects that I have been working on for the last few days. The piece below is completely drawn in and ready to have the canvas toned. The reference for these guys and the background marsh grass are from my trip to Pea Island last year on the Outer banks of North Carolina. Well this being Friday, the first day of spring and absolutely beautiful outside I am going to call it quits for the day and go outside!

"White Fence (Horse)"

Image
Presenting "White Fence (Horse)" a graphite sketch that I started while in Tulsa and just completed yesterday. Someone asked me the difference between my Graphite drawings and my graphite sketches while at NatureWorks and I though it would be a good idea to explain here as well. Simply put, the sketches are much looser than the drawings. I can work on and complete a sketch much faster than I do one of my drawings. I am not concerned about seeing the pencil lines in one of my sketches as I am in one of my drawings. The drawings are completely thought out (composed) before pencil ever makes a mark on the paper whereas on the sketches I will make changes as I go. Also my drawings are drawn on 300lb. Arches Watercolor paper and the sketches are done 140lb Arches watercolor paper. You wouldn't think that using a different pound paper would affect the outcome of a drawing so much but it does. The 300lb. paper gives me the ability to make subtle tonal variations and giving the

This being my 100th posting it seems right that its about something fun. My friend and fellow artist Ray Brown has informed me that my blog has been missing some important information about the NatureWorks show in Tulsa. Let me start this off by saying, we all need to be able to laugh at ourselves every once in awhile or at least at me. This story starts off with my concern for a fellow artist who looked like she needed some food on Friday after the opening of the show. I graciously offered up part of my sandwich after she devoured half of the fries on my plate, we artist need to help each other out when ever possible. Well the weekend progressed with all of us making sure that our fellow artist was feed. Sunday after the close of the show a group of us went to a nearby steak house where we ate dinner. My fellow artist sits down at the end of the table along with Ray and after they get situated I send down a roll "bun" on a plate to make sure that she gets something to eat. W
